Modifying your computer's appearance is a fun and engaging process. It usually begins with installing a pre-made theme that is downloaded from the Internet. The theme can be installed by manually patching DLL files or by using a theme management tool, such as UXStyle. However, installing a theme is not quite enough to completely customize a computer's looks.
If the system's icons for programs, folders and files are still set to the standard versions, they are likely to look out of place in a new theme. For example, you might have a Windows XP computer that you have configured with a Windows Vista theme. With the old XP icons still in place, the overall appearance of the screen can be disjointed and jarring. The Black Seven Folder Icon Pack is an example of a modern icon set that is well worth a look to replace those dull icons.
This pack comes with 16 icons that cover a decent range of functions, including media folders, document folders and folders for game programs. Their appearance makes their function fairly evident. For example, communications applications are represented by a globe, downloads are represented by a blue arrow pointing downwards, programs are indicated by an assortment of charts, photos are represented by a picture of a camera and games are represented by a red mushroom with a "Super Mario Brothers" motif. This would be a good folder to put emulators in, for example.
The icons are provided as ICO and PNG files. This makes them universal in nature and easy to install into Windows. It is important to note that these icons use a shiny, partially translucent appearance and are therefore better suited for modern styles, such as those used by Windows Vista and Windows 7 themes. They might look out of place in a more utilitarian theme.
These icons are compatible with all operating systems.
